Trial and Error

Trial and Error. When hearing this familiar phrase, what comes to mind for you?

1- Is it starting a new habit and failing to be consistent due to unrealistic goals?

2- Is it doing something correctly for a certain length of time, then suddenly, it does not work for you anymore?

3- Could it be trying a combination of things until something finally clicks?

Truth is my friend, it can be any of these things, a combination of some of them, or better yet, NONE of these things. Trial and error looks different for everyone in every situation. What may work for me, may be all wrong for you and vice versa.

So, what’s my point? Well, it is to provoke you to think about life in general. Life is full of trial-and-error opportunities! Isn’t that grand???

As I get older, I find that more often this trial-and-error paradigm kicks me in the gut. OUCH! Recently, I have discovered that it was starting to paralyze me with fear of trying or starting new things. I guess you could say I’m fearful of the “ERROR” part of the equation. It sounds weird for me to even admit that out loud. How can the Life Coach be stuck when her job consists of helping people get ‘UN-STUCK’?? Life sure is comical!

Well, I’m here to set the record straight with fear. I WILL NOT LET IT CONTROL ME ANY LONGER. (Neither can you friend, it has no power, except what we feed it. Let’s agree to feed fear less, OK??)

If Jesus died so that we can live life to the fullest, we must be willing to try new things. For me, it is writing blog posts and ACTUALLY PUBLISHING THEM! Whew! What a hurdle! (Yay GOD!) Sure, this will take some “TRIAL and ERROR” to get the posts edited, get the site set up correctly, and become consistent in my writing. But, it will all be worth it if even ONE PERSON is set free inside from fear and anxiety.

Perhaps you are desiring a career change and you feel paralyzed just thinking about the trials and errors that come with starting a new job, learning a new skill, or change in general. I’ve been there, done that, worn the T-shirt and washed it over and over again. Guess what, I’m still here to tell the story of how Jesus helped me overcome. He’s just DOPE like that!

Now, I realize that trial and error is not always negative. But, if I never experience either occurrence, I’m just running in place. That’s right, going nowhere! Stuck! I say we trust God enough not to do that to ourselves anymore. Let’s be willing to try something new or try something again. Maybe this time it will be a success or if it is not successful, at least we can honestly say that we tried. I know, thinking about trying something new can be scary but thinking about winning or succeeding makes the heart flutter with excitement of vast possibilities. I admonish you to experience more of life’s trial and error-moments. Let me know where it takes you.

Be blessed,

JerriTerry

Prayer: Father thank you for the trial and error moments in this life. Thank you that no matter what, your word says that you will never leave us nor forsake us. Help us to believe that and be willing to live this life you’ve given us out loud. I offer you my life with a grateful heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
